Justice the Inside Truth Newsletter

Hello to all prison families, friends, and loved ones.

     At Justice for Eddie Dungan, our mission is to ensure that the voices of Adults in Custody are heard, respected, and never forgotten. As part of that commitment, we publish a monthly newsletter titled “Justice: The Inside Truth.” This newsletter is mailed directly into Oregon prisons and is designed to illuminate the realities, differences, and daily experiences within each facility.

     Every institution operates differently. Some offer programs or opportunities that others do not. Some face challenges that rarely make it beyond the walls. Our goal is to document these differences, uplift the voices of those living them, and create a bridge between the inside and the outside.

What the Newsletter Includes

Documenting Deaths Inside ODOC

     We publish confirmed deaths within the Oregon Department of Corrections and invite individuals who knew the person to share their perspective — who they were, what they experienced, and how their life impacted others. These personal accounts ensure that no one becomes just a number.

Canteen‑Based Recipes

     Each issue includes a simple recipe made from items available inside the canteen. We hope these bring a moment of comfort or creativity. AICs are also welcome to send in their own recipes to be featured.

Creative Work From Inside

     We welcome poetry, personal writing, reflections, and lived experiences from anyone who receives the newsletter. All submissions remain anonymous unless the writer chooses otherwise. With permission, we also share selected pieces on our social media platforms so the public can better understand what life inside ODOC truly looks like.

Spotlight On Community Groups & Reentry Resources  

     We also provide space in our newsletter for other organizations that offer support, services, or reentry resources to AICs. This ensures that individuals inside know what help is available to them now — and what support they can access once they return home. Our goal is to connect AICs with real opportunities, real programs, and real people who care about their success beyond incarceration.

Issue #3 — May 2026

     May marked the release of Issue #3, and we send out roughly 100 newsletters each month. Most are mailed at random, with the goal of distributing them evenly across all Oregon prisons. If your loved one received a copy, we would be grateful to hear from them. Their feedback helps guide our advocacy, deepen our understanding, and strengthen the connection between facilities.

     Above all, we hope these newsletters bring a moment of joy, recognition, and reassurance — a reminder that they are not forgotten and that their voices matter.
